Athletic Fire at GIIS KL 2025 Annual Sports Meet

GIIS KL successfully hosted its vibrant Annual Sports Meet on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Bandar Tun Razak. This highly anticipated event brought together students from the CBSE primary (Classes 1 to 5) and the Cambridge streams (Years 1 to 11) for a day of athletic competition and holistic development.

The day began with a warm welcome speech, and a commitment to fair play was affirmed during the Oath Taking Ceremony led by the School Captain. Setting a tone of discipline and pride, the March Past and Guard of Honour were executed by the School Council and all the Sports Houses. The Sports Meet was officially declared open with a symbolic release of birds and balloons, marking the start of an exhilarating day.

The Sports Meet featured a wide array of competitive sports such as the 50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m races, as well as the Mixed Relay, Long Jump, and Shot-Put. Year 9–11 Cambridge students kicked off the excitement with the 400m final, leaving the audience gasping with excitement. A special highlight was the 4x100m inter-school relay race, which fostered friendly collaboration and competition by including external teams from Regent International School and Vivekananda School.

Beyond the races, the event showcased the students' diverse talents through aerobic routines, and GIIS KL’s martial arts team delivered an energetic Taekwondo demonstration.

The hard work and talent of the student-athletes were celebrated during the Prize Distribution ceremonies, held in three rounds throughout the day, where medals and trophies were awarded for outstanding achievements.

The Annual Sports Meet served a dual purpose, aligning with both the school's 9 Gems philosophy (especially Gem 2: Sports Excellence, Gem 3: Visual and Performing Arts, Gem 4: Personality Development, Gem 7: Universal Values and Ethics, and Gem 9: Skill Development). It also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting participation and physical fitness, the event directly supported SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being; SDG 5: Gender Equality; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities; and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, making the Sports Meet a truly meaningful experience for the entire GIISKL community.
